This story is one in a series about the relationship between James Kirk and Suzanne Brandt. It takes place in an alternate universe begun in The Dress, The Guests, The Cake, The Car, The Whole Darn Thing. The Kirk-Brandt Chronology lists all the stories, both in order of occurrence and order of creation.

In feedback to The Dress, The Guests, The Cake, The Car, The Whole Darn Thing, Wildcat asked, "So when are the A/U babies coming along?" I couldn't resist. I'm just so easy lately.

"Oh, Jim, yes, yes--"

"Shh. Shhh. You don't want to wake the--"

A high-pitched wail from the next room shattered the darkness. Red alert on the USS Parenthood.

With a heavy sigh, Jim rolled away from Suzanne. They'd had a lot of fun making that baby, but it was starting to look like they never would again.

"Whose turn is it?" he asked wearily.

"Yours."

He got out of bed and stumbled around in the darkness, searching for his robe. "Tell it to me once more."

"Six ounces of formula. Phaser on light stun. Hold it zero-point-four meters from the bottle, and fire for two seconds."

"How did you ever come up with that?" he asked as he pulled his robe closed.

"I didn't. Spock figured it out when he was here this afternoon. Apparently, Vulcan ears can't tolerate the sound made by a baby whose bottle isn't being delivered quickly enough."

Jim yawned and headed to the nursery, silently blessing the friend who was both godfather to his son and the finest science officer in the fleet.
